Let’s talk about burnout as a micro? nano? creator. I’m not new to the content creation world, I started this journey with a blog (ahh, remember blogs?) and it was a much needed outlet for me at the time. As the years passed and influencing became the new thing, I was fortunate enough to work with some incredible brands and meet some incredible people. I moved on from it though, as I needed a stable way to support myself financially, and influencing at that time was not what it is now.
But, I still loved creating. Writing (though I’m rusty at that so please forgive me), sharing photos, and videos are all things I love so I decided to rejoin the fold and try again.
What I’ve found is both disappointing and frustrating as it is for many of my content creator friends - the lack of reach. No reach, means no audience, which means no opportunities for growth. And though the majority of us create because we love it, also want (and deserve!) to be compensated for our efforts. And that’s just not the case. I’m burned out from creating, and forcing myself to post on these platforms in hopes that someone (anyone!) will engage.
I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a substack for a while, but these two articles really pushed me forward. In all honesty, I hate both Instagram and TikTok. Instagram is a wasteland, and though I love the small community I’ve managed to build on TikTok, endless scrolling is not for me. The brightside is that I know I’m not alone in my hatred, and apparently the data reflects it as well.
